I am looking my mornings with a superhealthy green smoothie for a couple of weeks to see if I can feel any benefit.

I want to try and balance creating the ultimate super healthy smoothie with taste and cost. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what should go in this super smoothie, and what foods actually have real benefit. Here are some examples I found online:

NUMBER 1

  • 2 cups basil (weight is 2.5 ounces)
  • 2 cups sunflower sprouts 1 Tbsp
  • Spirulina (or other green powder)
  • 3 Tbsp carob powder 1 Tbsp
  • Maca 1 Tbsp
  • 3 bananas
  • 2 1/2 cups frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup water

NUMBER 2

  • 1 small avocado or 1 banana or half of each
  • 1 heaping tablespoon of Barley Grass or Wheat Grass Powder
  • 1 tablespoon of Raw Honey or Agave Nectar
  • 1 tablespoon of Bee Pollen
  • 1 tablespoon of Raw Cacao Powder
  • 1 tablespoon of Maca Powder
  • 1 tablespoon of Chia Seeds or Hemp Seed Protein Powder
  • 1 cup of ice

NUMBER 3

  • Baby Spinach
  • Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein
  • Mixed berries
  • Water
  • Goji Berries
  • LifeStream Spirulina
  • Omega Pure liquid fish oil
  • Linseed (Flaxseed)
  • Banana
  • Broccoli
  • 10 Mint Leaves
  • Carrot
  • Organic Cocoa

Can you improve on these? Which of these actually has merit? Any way to improve on them?

I find this question is more related with fitness or nutrition than with cooking. – J.A.I.L. Nov 15 '12 at 12:36
I agree with @J.A.I.L., this is off-topic. – GdD Nov 15 '12 at 12:44

@JimmyBob, welcome to this site! Your question, as it is currently, is too broad in scope. If you wanted to try editing it down to a specific question and include any research you have already done, it might be salvaged. Otherwise I have to agree with J.A.I.L. and GdD. – Kristina Lopez Nov 15 '12 at 16:57

Please see the faq - this site is about food and cooking; health and nutrition questions are definitively off-topic here. It is also off-topic on the fitness stackexchange, where only nutrition questions relating to exercise are on topic. – Jefromi Nov 15 '12 at 17:28

@KristinaLopez Editing won't salvage the question; the core subject is off-topic. And to J.A.I.L. and GdD as well, please link to the faq or a relevant meta question when declaring a question off-topic; it's helpful to show users a clear explanation of what kind of questions we handle. – Jefromi Nov 15 '12 at 17:32

I'm surprised none of them include wheatgrass which is supposedly a superfood. It tastes foul but if you want to give it a whirl, there's a smoothie recipe from SmoothieWeb which looks good:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 medium orange, peeled and halved
  • 1 medium apple, quartered
  • 4 strawberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 cup of wheatgrass
  • 1 cup ice cubes
