comment Does coffee in a cafe press keep brewing after being 'squeezed'?
@Pureferret: If you tend to leave your press pot sitting, consider the "scoop out" or "reverse fill" methods detailed at: coffeenate.com/how-to-french-press-coffee-technique . Both have the added benefit of making the pot easier to clean out afterward...

comment Why is there no sweet (as in 'with sugar') butter?
@TFD I understand that the OP may not be in the US, but they did not list a location in their profile. The USDA/FDA guidelines in this case follow the WHO and FAO CODEX Alimentarius' international food standards supported by 184 member nations plus the EU.

comment Why did butternut squash make my fingers dry and yellow?
I would guess that the drying and irritation are caused by the pectins in the butternut squash. If you cut a butternut squash and leave it alone for a few minutes you will see beads of liquid forming on the cut surface which will turn into a solid gel due to their high pectin concentration. The orange staining is likely just the carotenoids from the squash they got stuck between the skin and layer of pectin-containing squash juice.

comment Why is there no sweet (as in 'with sugar') butter?
Part of the reason we don't see sweet butter products is that the USDA/FDA guidelines for butter allow for the addition of salt, but do not allow for additional sugar, and require a minimum of 80% milk fat content. Yogurt regulations, on the other hand, have all of their requirements for milk fat, milk solids, acidity, etc based on the product prior to addition of bulk flavoring agents, colorings, or additional ingredients such as fruits. In order to make sweet butter that is still 80% milk fat, some or all of the milk solids and water would need to be replaced by sugar.

comment How do I maximize the shelf life of my homemade hot sauce?
As a point of clarity: Sterilization of containers in a home setting is likely impossible as "sterilize" means "to eliminate (remove) or kill all forms of microbial life". The correct term for what you are describing is either disinfected or sanitized.

comment Is there any difference between cheap and expensive vodka?
Filtration is performed using plain or activated charcoal... the activated designation is used to indicate that it has been processed to have more surface area than unprocessed charcoal. Deactivated charcoal is what you would call the waste product after it has been used as a filtration medium. What do you mean "carbon.coal based charcoal"? Fossil-derived coal and charcoal are two different things, both are primarily made of carbon.
