This is exactly what I do when making miso soup from paste - add a trickle of water, mix, repeat. If I make the mistake of adding all the water at once, I am left with a miso ball at the bottom of a very thin broth.

+1 for self-clean cycle. We just did this to refresh a couple of pans. However, oven cleaner terrifies me - I would never put it on a pan I'm eating from, even if it will eventually have polymerized oil between my food and any residues.
