comment Can I make pickled eggs that don't require refrigeration?
In (mainly more old-fashioned) English pubs, pickled egg and a bag of crisps (US: potato chips) is a common snack. The egg is placed in the open bag of crisps, which is then held closed, given a little shake to distribute the flavour of egg to the crisps, and crisp flavour to the egg. In my local, this delicacy is referred to as "egg and chips", with customers having their personal preference as to flavour of crisps. Mine is Salt & Vinegar.

comment Chicken defrosted on Saturday can I eat it on Monday
There is an additional possibility of risk if the chicken was not bought frozen, or was not frozen on the day of purchase.

In your question you say that you don't mind carbonated water, so use that.

comment Microwave Asparagus?
As asparagus only takes 5-6 minutes to steam, plus the time to boil a little water in a kettle (quicker and more energy-efficient than heating from cold in a pan), just how restricted is your time?

Not everyone has a microwave oven though. I haven't had one for nearly three years now, and I don't miss it.

comment Safe to wash rice the night before and leave overnight before cooking?
I boil rice, then immediately rinse it under a cold tap to wash off the starch and chill it down quickly, then straight into the fridge, in an airtight container. If it's cooled quickly, there is no time for bacteria to form before it's in the fridge and it reheats really quickly. I only use basmati rice, so I can't comment on the Japanese type.

comment How do you steam vegetables?
MGOwen, because not everyone has a microwave oven, e.g. me. We haven't had one for nearly three years, and don't miss it.

comment Frying a turkey while snowing
I have no advice, but I just wanted to mention that I keep learning about amazing cultural differences between the UK and US on this site. Until today I'd never heard of deep-frying a turkey. It sounds like borderline insanity to me :-)
