So, here's my experience so far, I made up some lemon water (would've used sugar as you suggested, but we're on a sugar-avoiding diet at the moment) and soaked a biscuit in it. Afterwards, the metallic taste was almost completely gone! The only this was, then its texture was that of very soggy bread, making it hard to even toast. However, if I let it dry out again it might at least make toast. (I know the time is "not worth it" but it's fun to experiment, and maybe a technique comes of it in the end.) So: not saponified I guess, despite the butter and cheese in them.

Oh, true (or rather, it's very slightly higher than the rest of the rim)...sorry, I meant, the fact that it's not a circle, how will I find a gasket the same shape?

What about the spout?

Also, a reusable lid would be preferred.

@yossarian, it didn't seem to make a difference when I tried just now, since it rapidly pulsates: the power level is going 0,1,0,1,0,1 and then you switch to medium and it's 0,2,0,2,0,2, so you still have the jumps from 0 to 2 (or 0 to 3 on high) no matter what you start with, and that's when it leaks.

@yossarian, it's not even a quarter full. @Chris, admittedly, I am testing on the high setting, but that's so I know it will always work...

Towel didn't help. I even tried one of those thick elastic bands you get with broccoli at the store, and after the first few seconds it leaked through the wrap nonetheless. Thanks anyway, though.

Mmm, yeah, I forgot to mention I had already tried plastic wrap. It leaked. I'll try with a towel, though...
