Why do my hamburgers smoke? You can buy irradiated beef, too. A medium-rare burger is one hell of a treat. |

Does the use of kosher salt vs. table salt lead to a higher overall sodium intake? Essentially, it should be called "Koshering salt". |

Should I prick sausages during cooking? All I've had all day is pretzels, and I have to come across this photo? Mmmmm... |

How to make pancakes/crepes without eggs nor any liquids besides water? Rice milk is another good alternative. Cheapish, too. |

When boiling water, why start from cold? Cold water boiling faster is one of those persistent myths that proves that many people are unable to think critically. Feel free to laugh at people who haven't thought it through. :-p |

How do you cook a steak like those found in fine steakhouses? Man, am I glad to live near a Wegmans. No "select" beef sold at all, and lots of "prime" grade - that they dry-age in-store! |

How can I make Chinese chicken fingers like in the northeast? Look for a "sweet and sour chicken" recipe. That's what that's called (coupled with the orange-y red sauce) everywhere I've ever had it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_and_sour_chicken |

How do I cook a frozen hamburger in the microwave? You can thaw them using your microwave's defrost setting, but I wouldn't personally cook them in one. Wouldn't be very tasty... |

What's a good nondairy substitute for parmesan/grana padano as a salad-topper? It's likely a casein allergy, considering the gluten involvement too. |

What are the advantages of using agave sweetener instead of sugar? 92% is "as high as". Wiki links to several sources ranging between 56% and 92%, so it probably varies from brand to brand. If you're counting calories, it'd probably be worth reducing the amount of agave you use beyond their recommended 3:4 ratio and see how it affects taste. |

How do you cook grass-fed beef so it is not tough? Yeah, I've never had to do anything special to the grass-fed organic beef Wegmans (high-end grocery chain) carries. Just as tender, if not more, than their regular steaks. |

What can be substituted for vinegar in sushi rice? @ThinkingCook Yeah, the linked source is sketchy (and selling products). Before replying I Googled and found this more reputable link at WebMD which at least verified the vinegar bit: webmd.com/allergies/guide/mold-allergy |

What can be substituted for vinegar in sushi rice? Weird, I'd never considered vinegar being a source of mold allergens. We really do learn something every day! |
