Not sure in the rice cooker but I just mixed 1 cup of Jasmine with 1 cup of wild rice in a pot and it tasted great. :)

I used to do buy buttermilk for specific recipes and then have leftovers but now if the recipe calls for a small amount (1-3 cups) I just use a buttermilk substitute by mixing milk with vinegar and letting it sit for ten minutes.

I just taste it. Eat a noodle (or piece of noodle) and see if you like the taste/texture.

If you steam it you could also add flavors to it... for example (howtodothings.com/video/how-to-cook-with-tea) adds flavor by adding tea to the water.
