comment Tips for patriotic vanilla ice cream
The only ice cream that I have ever seen with marshmallows in it is Ben and Jerry's Phish Food, which is marshmallow fluff.

comment Peeling and dicing potato before boiling it
What type of potato do you normally use? I don't mind the skin from a Yukon Gold potato but normally remove the skin of your plain old Idaho potato due to looks and taste.

comment What can I do to add more flavor into my beef barley soup?
I usually choose not to add celery to some things due to the fact I am not a big fan of it (mostly texture wise). But I might try adding in some celery seeds next time as I don't mind those.

After many trial and errors, I decided to accept your answer for the bottom suggesting. This worked the best for me.

See Aaronut's answer as it will give you a more defined answer at what is happening behind the scenes.

comment How do I get sausages to cook evenly in a pan?
@Carnotaurus: I have never put oil in the pan when doing it this way. As long as you turn them every now and then, I have never had a problem with them sticking. (I have also always used a non-stick pan so that may be why.)

Actually, in a town I lived in they have an Asparagus Festival every year.

comment What can I do to add more flavor into my beef barley soup?
I cooked the meat prior to adding it in the soup and then cut it into small cubes. The meat is very tender. I sweated the onions in some butter along with the carrots. I ended up adding a bit more pepper and rosemary and that did the trick.

comment What can I do to add more flavor into my beef barley soup?
I put in about a 1/8 t of ground black pepper, a few shakes of the seasoned pepper, and a pinch or so of rosemary. When I cooked the beef roast, before cubing, I rubbed on salt, pepper, and rosemary.

comment How to protect hand skin when preparing food
Also, I said latex-free that way if you are allergic to latex they won't bother you and some (pretty sure latex ones) come with a powder on the inside of them so that might have the possibility of getting on the food. Not sure if it is harmless or not. To stay on the safe side, go with latex-free.

They are expendable, they usually come in a box of 100 and can range in price from $5-10 US. As for links, you can just check them out on amazon.com or a site like it. And I am pretty positive they are safe when dealing with food.

@Tim- In my culinary class, if you were to cut your finger or something, you would apply a band-aid and then put on a normal latex-free glove (like what doctors wear). Should work for rinsing food and what not.

comment Montreal Pizza sauce
@justkt: True, but are a large percentage of places in one city going to use the same exact recipe? I understand there might be similarities between the recipes but I don't think that all pizzerias are going to use the same sauce. That is all. =)

comment Montreal Pizza sauce
@Paul, welcome to Seasoned Advice. Unfortunately, recipe requests are off topic. Maybe if you changed what you are asking to something along the lines of "What makes Montreal pizza sauce taste unique compared to other pizza sauces?", it would work but if left as is it will most likely be closed.

comment omelettes and scrambled eggs - How long can I store them?
@Joe: I have always just added the eggs directly into the pan, but that was in order to have one less dish to clean.

comment Substitute for bell peppers in meat dishes
I find that bell peppers freeze pretty well so when they go on sale you can stock up, that is if you don't already do that.

comment How can you tell if boiling water from a cooking pot has reached 100° C?
You are correct with the assumption that the water reaches 100°C when it starts to boil. As for the average temperature, I think it would be really hard to calculate since you would have to take into account what temperature the room is in and what not.

comment How do you make Ketchup Doritos?
I know this question is getting old, but Frito-Lay does make Ketchup Lays chips. Not the same as Doritos but the "flavor" may be similar.
