comment What is a suitable Low carb rice alternative?
@Carmi Statistics show that among men, obesity is not strongly tied to socioeconomic status. However there have been studies that show some correlation in women. You may have misinterpreted cause and effect. It could be that obesity has limited their economic opportunities. Of course, in Western society the food industry has been built on high-fat, sugar and salt in prepackaged foods, often subsidized to make less healthy food cheap and readily available.

comment Grapefruit recipe substitute to avoid medicine interaction?
My understanding is that it is furanocoumarin compounds that cause the drug interactions. Also found in the pomelo.

comment Make bacon less salty
Agreed. My first thought was to substitute half the bacon with ground unsalted pork.

comment Why does unsweetened tea get colder, faster than sweet tea?
At risk of beating a dead horse, another thing to consider is whether the sugar is added before or after heating the water. Dissolving sugar in water is an endothermic reaction, so it will cool the water as it dissolves. As well, the sugar will be at room temperature when added, so that will affect the heat capacity of the solution…

Since he clearly stated the straw goes to the bottom of the glass, I still disagree since certainly the warmer tea will remain on the bottom, but I think this answer is still pretty good!

@SamLey Good point. I was working under the assumption of same mass of solution.

I'm not sure you can ignore conduction. Since ice floats and a pure water solution is quite a bit less dense, you would expect the cool water to sink in the pure solution, but not necessarily in the sugar solution.
