comment How long will durian smell linger?
@belisarius: Sure, it has a rather... unique smell, but fundamentally it's the same thing - particles from the food get dispersed in the air, and the smell fades away as the concentration gets lower (i.e. circulation of outside air).

You're obviously trying to be funny, but we have very specific guidelines for the food safety tag. I tried to edit your question into something that might stay open, but honestly, it's like any other smelly thing - it depends on the size of your area, ventilation, etc.

Even if it's not unsafe, it's going to taste awful...ler. Are you that desperate to save yourself $1?

comment How does a Miracle Thaw work?
I think the risk of these isn't so much their exaggerated claims, but the fact that they are thawing at room temperature and may cause people to ignore the food safety guidelines (i.e. thawing in the refrigerator or under cold running water). I've never bought one of these, but I just seriously doubt that it could thaw a whole chicken in less than 2 hours, and maybe not even a thick cut of meat.

comment Recommendations: Food with Minimal Stovetop Time, No Oven Available
It generally goes without saying that any "fast" recipe is going to be either a stovetop or microwave recipe, since the oven is almost invariably a "slow cooking" method. Anyway, there are entire sites and cookbooks dedicated to this; just search for "15-minute recipes" or "15-minute cookbook". You can even replace the 15 with a 5, if you really have so little time.

comment What are the factors that affect the chewiness, softness, moisture of bread based desserts like cinnamon rolls?
@CookingNewbie: As far as fat and sugar - that's exactly what this answer says. For Vital Wheat Gluten, I've never really tried it but that's their claim. Generally though, bread flour forms more than enough gluten to begin with.

What does this actually have to do with the name hot dog? Surprised that people upvoted this.

comment Should I taste-test food before serving it?
@PhilFrost: Mythbusters isn't exactly the most reliable source, especially if you look at their methodology for that experiment. They didn't monitor the dishes, they didn't use a control, they made no effort to factor in viruses and other non-bacterial risks, etc. IIRC, they also tested one double dip, not several as might be the case if someone reused their spoon again and again.
