Programmer from way way back, now a writer. Been learning to cook better as I live on my own.

Have watched the "healthy eating" debates over the years in the mass media and wondered why what was supposed to be "good for you" (mostly low-fat) was never as good as what I wanted to eat. Read "Sweet Poison" and "Big Fat Lies" and realized we should be eating what our ancestors ate rather than what post-industrial factories are processing. That means saturated fat over unsaturated and salt over sugar! Funny how everything tastes a lot better now...

comment What are the natural and artificial sugars?
Not sure which answer to comment on, but one other sweetener that is kind of in both camps is Stevia. (It will be pretty obvious, though, as its inclusion is as much marketing as mere ingredient selection.)

comment What are the natural and artificial sugars?
I've found it is difficult to examine this type of question without starting a discussion about the health of the different types of sugars. On this site, that is not a good idea.

Also flat beer can sometimes be "woken up" by adding salt.

comment Is a “cup” on a coffee maker always 6 oz? Is this a standard in the US?
And remember US and UK fluid ounces are slightly different.

comment How to clean scrambled eggs from a pan?
What else do you use that pan for? I don't have problems cleaning scrambled eggs off mine (also non-stick - stainless steel, in fact), but most of the time I use it to fry things in butter. And it's always been easy to clean.

comment How do you properly drain the grease after browning ground beef?
Could I ask why you want to drain the fat? I usually just keep cooking with it still there.
