comment My sauerkraut was left with dark mold covering the surface, is it ok?
As always, if in doubt throw it out! It's cabbage and vinegar, it can't have cost much. Is it worth getting food poisoning over?

comment What is the best way to toast pecans?
Thanks. I don't have a microwave, but I don't think I'd consider using it if I did. And a good idea Joe re. a cool sheet pan to arrest the toasting process.

comment Plain chocolate Chips same as semi sweet chips
Oh, there are plenty. You are right; in my opinion Asda's own chocolate is better than Dr. Oetker's for example.

Agreed on using whatever chocolate you want: I'm not a fan of darker chocolate so I usually just use milk chocolate chips.

comment Mortar and Pestle: Granite vs Porcelain
I have put the pestle straight through the bottom of a ceramic mortar before now. Granite (or marble) ftw!

comment How do I separate egg white?
Update to this answer: if you crack your egg carefully into a bowl, then take a small empty plastic water bottle, squeeze it a little, place it gently on the yolk and let the bottle relax, the negative pressure will suck the yolk into the bottle. You can then squeeze it out over another bowl. Works a treat.
