Hello. I am rumtscho, and I happen to love this site.
Why do I care?
I have always been a curious mind. I always want to know the "why" behind everything I encounter. And I encounter food roughly three times a day. Pair that with growing up in a cooking family - my grandma taught me to make phyllo sheets from scratch when I was four - and you can see how a place which is centered around gathering and propagating knowledge about food and its preparation fascinates me and makes me return again and again.
What is my place in the community?
I joined the site a year and five days ago, and have visited it on 333 days since then. At first I contributed mostly questions, answers, and votes. With time, I saw how our unique culture nurtures a place different from other cooking forums - a place where I felt right at home. I have often been the top user for a given time period, and made my 10k in less than 10 months. And as my reputation grew, I used my new privileges to help the site stay awesome. I edited poorly worded posts, flagged bad answers and cast close votes on bad questions, and started reviewing as soon as I reached 10k reputation. I actively participate in meta discussions. Currently, I am the only user with the Deputy badge, and I also hold many other relevant badges, both for providing relevant content (ten of my sixteen silver badges are Enlightened) and for helping with organization (I am one of the few non-founding users who have the Tag Editor badge).
What would be different if I become a moderator?
You don't have to fear big changes, because I am already doing many of the things a moderator would do. Now I alert the moderators about potential problems; if elected, I will act on them myself. If anything, I will become more cautious. Currently, I am quick to cast close votes on marginally fitting questions. If my vote becomes binding, I would hold back more. With me, you don't have to fear bad surprises - my editing record, my flagging record and my meta participation can tell you more about my future moderating style than a self-written summary.
How would my moderatorhood benefit you, the community?
With me, you will get a moderator who is involved and experienced with the site. I know most of the rules by which moderator work is done, and even as a non-moderator I am willing to learn the correct way to deal with a problematic situation, rather than leave it for somebody else to sort out. I have read all question asked since I joined, and many of the older ones, so I can easily spot duplicates. I am willing to invest time and effort not only in keeping the site as it is, but also in helping it grow - for example, I still write questions for the weekly contests to encourage participation, even though I am currently not eligible for a prize.
I will also be available for you. I am the owner of the chat room, and you can almost always find me there. I live in Europe, so I will be online at times when the current moderators are still asleep, and I am still awake when our American majority of users is most active. You can reach me if quick action is needed, even when the other moderators are not available, but I can still participate in discussions with them without much schedule conflict. In short, when the community needs me, I am here.
TL;DR
I am applying as a moderator, because I want to be even more involved with the community. My track record shows that I am a good fit for the position. I believe that I can handle the responsibility and do the job well. If you agree, vote for me!
