I was defrosting my turkey last night and I kept switching the sides since my sink isn’t big enough, I forgot to put it in the fridge before bed and the top portion was sticking out of the water all night till 6am so about 9 hours. The turkey was completely frozen when I started defrosting, is it safe?

do you have a way to check it's temperature? a fully frozen turkey takes a long time to thaw - so if it was not in the danger zone, probably safe still. – SnakeDoc Nov 27 '19 at 17:20

I know the water itself was still ice cold in the morning. I wouldn’t think it was close to the danger zone. It’s a 22 lb turkey – Matt Nov 27 '19 at 17:29

There is no way to objectively answer this question without accurate temperatures. If you understand food safety, and "the danger zone", your own estimates are the best you can do. – moscafj Nov 27 '19 at 17:33
  • Also how warm your house is, so that you know the temperature of the part sticking out the water. If your heating was off and you live in a fairly cool climate, it should be absolutely fine. – Bee Nov 28 '19 at 11:29
