I wonder if there's any quick and dirty hacks I could learn to better get the meat out of a coconut. Every time I try to make desiccated coconut, I have to start off by getting the meat out. I have seen a ton of YouTube videos and instruction web pages. Invariably they are able to crack the coconut nearly perfectly in half. I can't. I always end up with little pieces of coconut meat tightly fixed on shell. I can't hammer these pieces if I want my fingers intact -- actually I did try it once with an oven mitt, results were not great. Anything I can do to get the shell off the meat other than prying away with a knife?
