I need some advice, since I want to make a Beef Stew but never cooked one before. I look at this video but I have some questions/doubts... the way this guy cooks on the video looks fine, but it doesn't match the written recipe: he shows 250C over 2.5hr in the oven, but the written recipe says something like an hour and not using the oven. Can someone give me some rough estimates how much that beef would need to be sitting in the oven so that I don't easily overcook it?

There is also a matter of flour. He doesnt add any. There is some flour that sticks to the beef and possibly some starch contained in the red potatoes but there aint any flour per se.

Any other ideas on what is not shown on the video but I should follow would be helpful.

  • There are as many beef stew recipes as there are people, everyone does it differently. But 250 Celsius seems awfully hot. A good source for basic American recipes is the Fannie Farmer cookbook. The recipes often lack pizzaz but are a great jumping off point for good American recipes – Steve Chambers May 6 '18 at 0:39
  • I suggest finding another recipe – Max May 6 '18 at 2:01
  • I do my beef stew in a slow cooker, 8-12 hours. Thicken with corn starch. – Norm May 7 '18 at 12:56
