Two days after canning my home recipe Lentil soup, I noticed that a slightly darker discoloration than the soup formed at the top of the jar. I test the jar lid for a good seal after processing and it seemed to be sealed perfectly. Will my Lentil soup be safe for eating? Thank you.

Did you use pressure canning? – GdD Jan 21 at 9:36
  • Where did you get the canning recipe? How closely did you follow it? – derobert Jan 21 at 19:59
  • Hi GdD. Thank you for your help. This is my first time trying to can. No, I did not use the pressure canning method. I used my own recipe, sterilized the jar and lid, warmed the soup before pouring into the jars, used a canning pot with the water covering the jars and boiled according to instructions. I heard the "pop" on the lid 15 to 30 minutes or more after taking the jar out of the boiling water to cool. I allowed the jar to cool for 24 hours. the lid is still sealed tightly and there are still no signs of the lid having "popped up" or buckling. – pgr Jan 22 at 20:12
