@Matthew - I took a wild guess, actually; I live in the UK and (separately) don't recall the last time I bought a can of cooked chicken (if ever). :-) Last time I was in the U.S. prices seemed really high to me, so.. :-D
Note that it's really easy for a car outside in the sun to hit 100F inside. It totally depends on the weather conditions. 80F and sunny? I wouldn't chance it for a $4 can of chicken. But my appetite (bada-bing) for risk on these things is low.
@J... - Oh, I'm not saying his reasoning was sound. :-) That said, I don't think he chewed the seeds, and I'm certain he didn't eat ~40 apples at a time (or even on any given day). (But re horses: Do we even know if amygdalin is converted to cyanide by a horse's digestive fluids like a human's? They're quite different to us...which is, of course, part of why his reasoning wasn't sound.)
@AndreKR - Maybe you wouldn't. ;-) I know a guy who happily eats the entire apple -- well, okay, he says he doesn't like stems so he pulls that off. But the rest of it, core (and pips) and all, he munches. He told me once that if horses eat the whole thing, why shouldn't he?
@Tetsujin - Yeah, I'm sure it's sold that way in the U.S. now, too. Which seems a shame, the old way (foil wrapping inside a cardboard box) seems rather more sustainable than these plastic tubs, and I don't recall any issues with it. I suppose tampering would be less evident. sigh.
"...that is mean to be braised..." => "that is meant to be braised..." (can't make a one-character edit, can't think of anything else to change without potentially conflicting with your intent).
